FOUR CURIOUSLY UNRELATED ART SONGS
for tenor, mezzo-soprano & woodwind quintet
This project was thirty years in the making! I took four art songs that I wrote and college and orchestrated them for voice and woodwind quintet. The results were magical. The pieces were recorded on January 30, 2022. They were beautifully sung by Emily Weinberg and Andrew Hernandez, and included some wonderful instrumentalists, namely, Jessica Sheldon on flute, Luke Dodson on oboe, Christopher Bang on clarinet, Joseph Montoya (That's mah boy!) on horn, and Alec Richard on bassoon.
OUR TRUE HERITAGE
for SATB, harp, and baritone solo
The premiere of Our True Heritage, commissioned by the Contra Costa Chorale and based on the poem of the same name by Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, took place on November 19 and 20, 2016 in Berkeley, California. The piece was written for SATB choir, harp and baritone solo. Jillian Risigari-gai was my harp coach and she played the premiere beautifully. Sepp Hammar was the amazing voice who sang the baritone solos. This 20-minute work includes three choral movements and two harp interludes. It was my pleasure to work with the lovely and talented Cindy Beitmen as she led the wonderful chorale members in their 50th Anniversary celebration.
Our True Heritage was given its second performance on April 20, 2017 at the 1st Congregational Church of Los Angeles under the beautiful direction of Dr. Jon Talberg.
Once again, Jillian Risigari-gai mesmerized us with her beautiful harp playing. Stay tuned here for more performance information.
